Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is more than just pretty smelling candles and hand soap. When used in a therapeutic setting essential oils are uses to promote healing and enhance the function of the body’s healthy systems. Aromatherapy treatments methods include: inhalation, steam, infusers or application topically to the skin.

There are three different operating systems in the body. The pharmacological system which affects the chemistry of the body; the physiological which affects the function and process of the body and the psychological which affects the emotional states of the body. These three systems interact continuously to keep the body in healthy balance. It is within this interaction that Aromatherapy is so powerful. It works on all three systems simultaneously to bring the body to a state of balance. They work by effecting the system which is out of balance to the degree which it is needed to bring it back to balance.

Essential oils affect people first through sense of smell. This sense is directly connected to the emotional and memory centers of the brain. Essential oils are volatile liquids distilled from plants and flowers. These “oils” are the heart of the art of Aromatherapy. Almost all essential oils have antiseptic properties and are able to fight infection and destroy bacteria, fungi, yeast, parasites and viruses. Many oils also reduce aches and pains, soothe tension and reduce inflammation and muscle spasms as well as stimulate the immune and central nervous system.

Essential oils are among the most important therapeutic compounds manufactured by plants. They contain a variety of active substances and are responsible for each plants unique fragrance. These essential oils work in plants the same way hormones work in humans, regenerating and enabling the immune defenses of plants. The molecules of the essential oils carry these healing nutrients to the cells of the body.
